70 Minute Run Mix

So, this is kinda sad, but my favorite part of running is that I get to listen to music, without interruption, for the entire time I run. That never happens to me anymore. I am constantly besieged by Rollie wanting to hear the "hoohoo" song, which is the Peter Bjorn and John song, Young Folks, that Rollie likes to dance to (I blogged about it here a while ago). If I never hear it again, it will be too soon. He has some other faves, and I have to say that he has great taste in music, but he needs to learn moderation. He is still at the point where he wants to hear things over and over and over and over and . . . well, you get the idea.

So, without further ado, here is my current running mix. I figure if I keep posting these, maybe someone else will, too, because i like to get ideas from other people for new running songs I might want to mix in. (Hint. Hint. I get bored with stuff easily - need some new blood on the IPod.)

Hold Up - Girl Talk
Knife (Girl Talk Remix) - Grizzly Bear
Feel Good Inc (Single Edit) - Gorillaz
What's Golden - Jurassic 5
B.O.B. - OutKast
Kool Thing - Sonic Youth
Common Reactor - Silversun Pickups
If I Should Fall From Grace With God - The Pogues
No Cars Go - Arcade Fire
I Still Remember - Bloc Party
Keep The Car Running - Arcade Fire
(Drawing) Rings Around The World - Super Furry Animals
Song 2 - Blur
A Good Idea - Sugar
Lose Yourself - Eminem
Jesus Walks - Kanye West
Thieves - Ministry
U-Mass - Pixies
Web in Front - Archers Of Loaf

Thanks to Nat for a few of these. Good additions.

I was thinking about "Kool Thing" during my run on Sunday. I was listening to my book (www.audible.com), though, since it was a long slow run so I didn't have music. Nat is right - the Pogues are good to run to.

I've been enjoying podrunner lately. ( http://www.djsteveboy.com/podrunner.html) DJ steveboy is a DJ in San Francisco and he does weekly running podcasts. I've listened to two or three and they are good for letting the mind wander while your body moves. And, he has a nice intro to each one explaining where the music came from and what the theme is.

Hmm. Agreed on Kool Thing. Sugar Kane is also a good one.

I will check out the podcast. Is it free? I am pretty picky - I have to find the song somehow inspiring.

thanks!

Yeah! Pogue runners!

Anne you are so much better schooled in the music scene. I haven't heard of most of those bands you listed.

But here are some that I like for running:
The Killers--both albulms have great songs to pick from for running.
Do you have Blue Monday by Nee Order? It is a must. It is like 7 minutes long and builds.
Queen/David Bowie--Under Pressure. I am not a Queen fan at all but I love this song.
Rock Superstar or How I could just Kill a Man--Cypress Hill
Yer So Bad and Learning to Fly--Tom Petty
Scarred But Smarter--Kevin Kinney
Mand in Black, Folsom Prison and Walk the line--Johnny Cash
O'Valencia, July! July!-Decemberists
Everybody Knows--Leonard Cohen
Hung Up and Ray of Light--Madonna
Traveling Song-Bright Eyes
Dakota-Sterophonics
Catch My Disease--Ben Lee
On the Road, Good Hearted Woman--Wille Nelson
Chocolate--Snow Patrol
Whiskey in the Jar, Body of an American, Sunnyside of the Street, Sickbed of Culchlain, Tuesday Morning, Streams of Whiskey--The Pogues
She's Got a New Spell, Great Leap Forward--Billy Bragg
Wind it up, Making Out--Gwen Stephani

Those are some regulars on my various playlists.

you kids and your "new" music...
here's what you really need...

Jump - Van Halen
Eye of the tiger - Survivor
Rock me like a hurricane - Scorpions
Master of puppets - Metallica

Yeah there are more, but those should get you going.

ooo... did I say "rock me"?
I meant "Rock YOU"...
There goes my hair metal credibility.

Jason, I didn't know you had this tough-guy metal side to you. It's a whole new Jasonaut.

hey annie! I trailed over from commenting on metblogs to comment here.

I'm a fan of the galloway running method, but hate running with a watch or paying attention to time. So I make "running playlists" with 3- or 4- (or sometimes 5-, if it's a really good one) minute songs sandwiched between my 1 minute "walk" songs. It works really well for me -- I just run for one song, walk for the next.

Hey, Abby! Nice to see you here in my home. :-)

I think James on Metblogs is also a Galloway runner. I actually just started running last year and haven't been that serious about it, but i did start using the Galloway training plans, just to give me something to work towards. I don't do the walking part, though, because if i walk, then I find I don't want to start running again. :-)

So what songs are on your playlists? I am always fishing around for some new ones. I get bored.

P.s. Thanks for reading metblogs. I like your comments - smart, open-minded, but unafraid to voice your opinion. Good sense of humor.

My actual running songs of the moment (not my minute walkers) include:
Billie Jean (MJ),
Speakers Push the Air (Pretty Girls Make Graves, incidentally playing their last show at the EARL next Tuesday),
Hey Ya (the pops Outkast song, it's still infectious, years later),
The Queen and I (Gym Class Heroes),
Set Phasers to Stun (Bad Religion),
Leve-Toi et Rap (MC Solaar),
You Are My Sunshine (Ray Charles),
Twist and Shout (Beatles),
Hold Up (Girl Talk, I added that one back on yesterday, thanks Annie),
The Fellowship of the Bling (Reggie and the Full Effect),
I Wanna Be Your Dog (The Stooges).

It changes pretty often. I like the variety. Thanks for the other song ideas!
