For a Monday

Things are a vast improvement over last week. Rollie only got one timeout at school today and is being pretty agreeable today. He is very excited because he had a personal phone call, just for him, from his Uncle Lyle. I ran four miles, then walked another .9. I think I easily could have run farther, but I got a blister, which was okay until it opened up, and then not so much. Also, no one so far today has thought that I look pregnant.

But it's only 2:21 p.m.

4.9 miles is awesome! I am of the mind that if you run 75% of it you ran it all. Heart rate is still up.
Peachtree app is in the paper this sunday. Get the evening edition Sat afternoon and drop it by the PO. You are ready!
Sounds like a decent a Monday.

Thanks, nat. You are a good cheerleader. You weren't a cheerleader that I remember, but seems like you coulda been?

Anyway, yeah, I definitely could have gone longer. I just feel pretty crappy with the ongoing sinus thing that I am starting to think is allergies (ugh) and the funky blister. I need to ask you about blisters (do you wear a certain sock?) and also about chafing when wearing shorts. My thighs are so big they chafe if I run more than three miles in shorts. What do I do? Rub vaseline on my thighs? that might be a little racy for the Y. LOL

But I am probably going to do the peachtree. I think you are right - I can do it if I keep it up the next few months. So, the way to go is the SAt. evening application and the post office? I never would have guessed that.

Just to clarify, my understanding is the application will be in the early Sunday edition out on Sat afternoon--I could be wrong about that. I get mine a week early in the mail because I am ATC member.
Chafing--this is why I don't wear running shorts but wear instead skirt, capri tights or the super short compression shorts. Everything else rides up and causes chafing. But yes vasoline or bodyglide are your bestest friend. And it is not because of big thighs. Chafing pretty much happens to everyone unless you are bowlegged stick. I never had a problem with it until I started doing longer runs. You will find if you are out there running long enough you will chafe in some crazy places.
I prefer a very thin sock and like Hera footies by Asiacs. I don't have a problem with blisters but I have heard body glide is good for that problem too.

You are right - when i wear pants and run, I have no problem. Will have to figure this out for warm weather. Do they make running-specific tights? And what are compression shorts? They sound too short for me. I need coverage. Also thanks on the footie suggestion. I think my sock is what rubbed the blister yesterday.

Great run, Anne! You rock!

I chafe too, especially under the arms - vasaline is cheap and effective.

I find that thinner running socks are worth the $ because I sweat a lot. Cotton ones or socks that get twisted/lumpy will cause a blister faster than anything.

Go to your grocery store and get the Sunday paper on Saturday (I think it comes out around lunchtime - others will be waiting), have your id photo, check ($28 payable to Peachtree Road Race) and envelope ready. Then, you can fill out your application and get it to the post office. : )

Under the arms? I haven't had that problem. Knock on wood.

Um, ID Photo? What, like scanned? And uh, regular letter size envelope?

Fuck!
Sorry.
I forgot about the ID!
Yes, I already mailed it in.
Guess I am screwed.

Oh yeah, the shorts, well mine are really short (3 in inseam) but you can get them longer. Or even better you can get them under skirts. I prefer the skirts with the sewn in panties but you might prefer the ones with the shorts sewn in. The skirts I wear are really short but Brookes and some other brands make ones that hit mid thigh.

Thanks for all the info! And can you send in your app twice?

Photocopy of your driver's license. Just a regular envelope is fine - you only need to put in your check, copy, and application.

Nat - you should send in a second application on Saturday with a note explaining the mix-up (so they don't think you are trying to cheat). I'll bet it works out fine.
